24 Hours in Joburg – Kahn Morbee
He’s the guitarist in the Parlotones, one of South Africa’s most loved musicians, and a new father to twins! We sat down with the muso to find out what he’d do with a day in Jozi…
Rise ‘n shine time! At the moment, that’s 24/7 with the recent addition of our newborn twins, as well as our 2-year-old jack-in-the-box toddler.
Kids dressed, dad’s dressed and off to school. High fives, kisses goodbye and now we breathe for 5 seconds.
Try get through admin, trudge through emails and get business done. If I’m not home, then Woolies Nicolway or the Coffee Shop at NHC Bryanston is my office is for a few hours.
Studio vibes! The Parlotones are working on our next album, due for release in 2018. I make my way to High Seas Studio in Rosebank, and meet up with the band and producers to work on our parts.
My work includes a lot of eating on the go, so If I’m not home preparing my own version of healthy, I head to Naked Kitchen & Coffee Bar in Morningside – their graze is top notch.
School run! Fetch kids, hear about everything my son got up to at school, then we pick up some supplies and head homeward.
Gym time. I love to be as active as my time allows. If all else fails, then I head to Virgin Active, switch off from the outside world and do my fitness thing.
Either performing as a band or in my solo capacity, or chillaxing with the family. If we go out, it’s to Roots for dinner. If you haven’t been, that would be my recommendation 101. Food is amazing, staff are phenomenal and it’s an all-round 5-star place!
