Having worked alongside some of Europe and South Africa’s most acclaimed chefs, Farrel Hirsch now…
If you didn’t know it was there, you’d be forgiven for driving right past. However, we’re glad we discovered this beautiful gem, located just on the outskirts of Sandton, within the Acorn Lane Guest Lodge estate.
Large trees, an old homestead and a personal touch create the magic that Stelle is well known for. Featuring a beautiful indoor dining area with a bar and fireplace for a cosy atmosphere in winter, and in summer the doors open to the garden and the outdoor area, which is perfect for enjoying the long, warm Jozi days or even a relaxing business lunch under the trees – and on occasion some live music too.
Stelle take great pride with their menu – everything is freshly prepared by ‘Mamma’; an authentic and honest to goodness Italian mother with a flair for creating the most delicious, fresh pasta we’ve ever tasted.
The menu, although not vast, is literally the perfect balance of simple, genuine, easy to identify flavours and textures, prepared with passion and dedication. Their fresh pasta, gnocchi and risotto are prepared to order, and the menu offers a selection of starters, pasta, main courses and desserts.
Being in an Italian restaurant, of course we ordered the pasta. The highly recommended Robiola and Truffle pasta pockets, served in a butter and truffle sauce. It was so melt-in-the-mouth that conversation ceased at the table for at least 5 minutes while we savoured every mouthful. The Ravioli Neri Al Salmone was as delicious – the squid ink pasta perfectly paired with a salmon and vodka sauce.
The wine list is small, concise and works perfectly with the home-made dishes. The service was impeccable – efficient, yet not obtrusive.
Stelle are open for lunch and dinner reservations from Tuesday to Saturday, as well as Sunday lunch and they are all about creating a memorable dining experience for every single guest.
If you have a special event or celebration, then make sure to book the private dining room for an intimate and exclusive affair to be remembered!
