Hello Joburgers, there’s no better way to spend a cold winters evening than with great company and good food. And we’ve got you covered with just that! Here are our top must-try winter menu’s that will guarantee you that warm fuzzy feeling inside no matter how miserable the weather gets.
Considered as a dining room away from home, The National just released their spicy, new winter menu, and it’s the perfect excuse to leave the house on a frosty eve. The menu features a delicious array of smoky Asian, Texan, South American and other flavourful dishes that offer a light yet comforting cuisine this winter. Expect flavours like cumin, coriander and paprika to add a little spice to your day and warm the chilliest of moods. Some of the must-try dishes are the steam buns, a starter served with crispy sriracha fried chicken, the duck curry, a main of confit, pulled duck legs cooked in a homemade Thai red curry paste and the Mississippi mud pie dessert which boasts chocolate upon chocolate.

Flames restaurant at the Four Seasons
If you’re looking for a spot with a panoramic view over leafy suburbs, the Flames restaurant at the Westcliff will serve as the perfect evening out. This urban casual eatery plays host to a delectable winter menu that features dishes like sweet potato gnocchi served with watercress, ginger butter and crispy sage as well as forest mushroom risotto topped with parsley, truffle and parmesan cheese and options of fabulous fondues. Choose between ‘Classic Cheese’ with Gruyere and vegetable crudites, brocollini, rosemary and garlic croutons, a ‘Carnivore’ fondue of oxtail broth with angus beef fillet, portobellini mushrooms and veal noche or a ‘Chinese fondue’ with shellfish broth, and queen prawns, Norwegian salmon and shiitake mushrooms. With live dining entertainment as well as fireplaces to keep you warm, Flames will surely set the perfect winter scene for any occasion.

Haute Cabriere Wine
Are you ready for the second season of Pop-Up restaurants to be hosted by Haute Cabriere Wine estate together with chefs Nic van Wyk and Westley Muller? Well, we sure are! In addition to last year’s venue of Randpark Golf Club in Johannesburg, Haute Cabrière will also be collaborating with The Peech Boutique Hotel in Melrose and the Bryanston Country Club in Sandton. Expect to look forward to a six-course tasting menu where each course is paired with a different wine to create a unique taste experience and cure any winter blues. Menu highlights include pan-fried Patagonia calamari with black tomato sauce and seared scallops, paired with the Haute Cabrière Unwooded Pinot Noir, and finish on a high note with a chocolate torte with amaretti crumbs, candied pecan nuts and salted caramel popcorn, accompanied by a glass of Pierre Jourdan Ratafia.
