The Diamond Works sparkling in to the New Year

The Diamond Works sparkling in to the New Year

Diamonds have long been a symbol of purity, strength, wealth, power and most importantly love. For our readers that are wanting to spoil that someone special this festive season, or even possibly planning an engagement proposal (oh you sneaky thing, you!) Diamond Works have just the offering for you.

An appreciation for diamonds is something that has evolved due to their rareity, but also the many beautiful colours and stone shapes available with which to “frost” oneself.

The Diamond Works Institute is considered a true South African diamond and jewellery expert. Having opened their doors in 2001, they have evolved to be one of the most renowned diamond facilities in the region.

Diamond Works is Cape Town’s finest jewellery experience, but they do also have an outlet at OR Tambo International Airport, don’t worry!

The idea was to create a jewellery destination where tourists could learn about the art of diamond cutting, witness the making of fine jewellery pieces and see and purchase the finished product.

All of this is experienced in a welcoming and relaxed environment, and tours are offered in various languages including English, German, Russian and French.

The Diamond Works is a one-stop, exciting experience for tourists both young and old. Situated on the ground floor of the Metropolitan Life Centre, directly opposite the Cape Town International Convention Centre, there is convenient parking for tourist coaches and visitors’ vehicles right outside the main entrance. It is completely wheelchair friendly, and a complimentary transfer service is also available on request.

Guests are greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and taken on an informative 20 minute tour. The tour starts with a fully operational diamond-cutting workshop, staffed by diamond cutters from previously disadvantaged communities who are all graduates from the Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Cutting School in Joburg.

This is followed by the jewellery-manufacturing workshop where one can see the goldsmiths at work. Historical information is furnished on the Diamond and Gold mining industry as well as The Diamond Wall of Fame that covers all the Famous Diamonds of the World.
