It's the New Year, which means shifting out the old and making room for the…
Hello Joburgers, wine clubs used to only be for ‘wine people’, but no longer. One of our favourite Melville restaurants, Love Me So, recently launched a monthly wine club that’s quickly getting the attention of wine drinkers and foodies alike.
The Love Me So Wine Club events aren’t your usual formal affairs – rather, they’re very casual gatherings. (In other words, you won’t be embarrassed if you don’t know the difference between a wooded and unwooded chardonnay!) Each event showcases four wines – usually one white, one rosé, one red and one dessert wine – all from different wine farms.

The evening kicks off with the wine expert of the evening introducing guests to the wine that they’ll be tasting. Guests then receive tasters of each wine that the event is showcasing, and sip and swirl each one while the wine expert goes into more detail about each one, explaining what makes it unique and which foods pair well with it.
After the introduction to the wines of the night, guests are served a three-course dinner of Japanese-inspired small plates. It’s important to note that the wine club isn’t a wine and food pairing event. While the dishes on the menu don’t necessarily pair with the wines of the night at all, you can be assured that each one is super-tasty and something sure to be memorable. Love Me So is one our favourite foodie hotspots for good reason, you know!

The dessert wine is sometimes served at the end of the meal. If you’d like more of any of the wines you got to taste at the beginning of the evening during your meal, you can ask your waiter if any of them are already on the menu and order them by the bottle or by the glass. Otherwise, Love Me So has an extensive selection of wines as well as beautifully presented cocktails on offer to quench your thirst.
Have you attended a Love Me So Wine Club event yet, Hello Joburgers? If you have, we’d love to know what your favourite part of the evening was! For us, it was the Vondeling Rouge dessert wine and the crispy pork pancakes on the menu at last month’s event. (We’re still dreaming of the crispy pork, to be completely honest.)
