Conferencing in the bushveld

Sep 12, 2018, Author: Candice May

A trip to the bush is the perfect escape – even when you’re working! Nothing allures the magic of Africa more than the bush. Whether you’re tracking the Big Five on a game drive, enjoying the warmth of a crackling Boma fire or drifting peacefully down a river on a canoe, you’ll experience a certain restfulness that’s not easily forgotten, providing conference organisers with the opportunity to do things a little differently.

Mabula Game Lodge

Located about 47km from Bela-Bela, Mabula Game Lodge offers all the best of both worlds – all the amenities of the city but none of its hassles. The lodge is kitted out to meet the needs of just about any conference and has three venues on offer, including the newly refurbished Marula Conference Venue that seats up to 60 delegates in cinema-style setup, 50 in a boardroom configuration or 30 in a U-shape. Delegates can choose from a quirky selection of themed tea and coffee breaks, from Wild at Chocolate that’s guaranteed to get any chocoholic’s heart rating, to Mabula Ice Age, offering different flavours of ice cream with toppings from chocolate sprinkles to Amarula cream.

Tau Game Lodge

An easy four-hour drive from Joburg, Tau Game Lodge in the Madikwe Game Reserve can sleep 60 guests and houses fantastic conference facilities, making it an ideal destination for intimate conferencing or teambuilding in the bush. The exclusivity of this lodge is sure to enhance engagement even if conference planners don’t do anything out of the ordinary. Plus, the conference facilities are state-of-the-art – think wall-mounted presentation speakers, motorised screens and window blinds, high-resolution projectors and network points. Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge

Beautifully situated on the slopes of an ancient volcano, the very venue and setting of Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge, meaning ‘place of the rock’, in the heart of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve is so unique that conference organisers will not have to do much to give the event a wow factor. There are four conference and banqueting facilities to choose from – the Hippo that can hold groups of 12 to 16, the Rhino that can hold 40 to 100 and the Tau and Nare that can each hold 80 to 108. For larger conferences, there’s an option to combine the Tau and the Nare, which can then hold up to 400 delegates in a cinema-style setup and includes a stage, dance floor and three-phase power.
