Belinda Mapongwana is the founder of Mapongwana Attorneys, a 100% black-woman owned boutique law firm in Sandton, that offers specialist legal services in corporate and commercial law. She is also the Founder and CEO of Seza Isizwe, a company focused on providing mentoring, career guidance, workplace and life skills to the youth. Belinda is extremely passionate about female empowerment and she is a member Women Leading in Law (WOLELA).
What inspired you most while starting your entrepreneurial journey?
I was inspired by possibilities. I set myself ambitious goals and every time I ticked them off my list I was inspired to dream bigger and reach new heights.
The first law you would pass if you were president?
I would make it compulsory for law students to be placed in law firms to gain practical experience.

What makes you feel empowered as a woman?
I am empowered by the knowledge that I stand on the shoulders of giants. Women who came before me, and under more difficult circumstances, carved the way for me to enjoy the opportunities I now have.
3 things people don’t know about lawyers?
Other than being hard workers, most lawyers are shy, they do not enjoy the spotlight. Deep down, they are kind-hearted and service oriented.

How do you balance your personal life with your career?
I make sure that I spend as much time with my daughter as possible. I also make sure that I keep abreast of fashion trends and I love sport. Catching up with my family, friends and mentees.
Who’s your female role-model?
I have two – My mom and sister, both are self-employed and have been on an entrepreneurship journey for many years.
