Let’s paint Jozi rainbow colours – a snapshot of this month’s must-do activities

Oct 9, 2019, Author: Carly Ritz

Living and expressing our gender, sexuality and identity is something to celebrate every day. But with October being Pride Month, now is a great time to revel in the freedom to be whoever we want to be … together!

Pride of Africa Lifestyle Conference

The Pride of Africa Lifestyle Conference is a platform that will get people talking, discussing and sharing. Designed to promote a much-needed dialogue, topics will include sessions into the relevance of Pride and various other insightful discussions around gender identity and sexual orientation. Whether you’re a part of the LBGTQ community or not, you’re bound to learn or hear something you didn’t know before. Details and tickets for the event will be made available soon on Pride of Africa’s website.

When: 12 October 2019 from 10h00 to 18h00

Pride of Africa Brunch

Pride of Africa Month wouldn’t be complete without a little glitz and glamour … or brunch. Come along for what promises to be a fabulous morning with none other than Brooklyn Hytes, one of the most popular drag queens, to strut down the runway on RuPaul’s Drag Race. FYI: Early birds will get the opportunity of a meet and greet the queen of the north before she joins Pride of Africa as the Grand Marshall of this year’s Johannesburg Pride Parade and Festival. Details and tickets for the event will be made available soon on Pride of Africa’s website.

When: 20 October 2019 from 10h00 to 12h30

Johannesburg Pride Parade and Festival

From the atmosphere to the outfits to the camaraderie, you really can’t replicate a Pride Parade and Festival. It’s a celebration of all of us, and the fact that the event outgrows its original venue to due increased attendance year on year (bye-bye Melrose Arch and hello Sandton!) proves that it’s a must-attend kinda occasion. Food and drinks will be available in the Pride Village and there will be cashless payment solutions to spend at the various stalls, although your cash dollar will still be good to go. PS: Don’t miss the much anticipated after-party at Babylon – The Joburg Bar in Illovo afterwards!

When: 26 October 2019 from 11h00 (the actual parade is set to leave from the assembly point at 14h00)

Where: Corner of Rivonia Road and West Street, Sandton
