#LushHaul: Holiday beauty products worth packing in your suitcase

Nov 26, 2019, Author: Candice May

Hello Joburgers, whether you’re going on a weekend staycation, a minibreak in the sun or jetting off to more tropical climates, one thing you don’t want to overlook when preparing for your summer holiday is which beauty essentials you’ll be taking with you. I’m a pro at condensing my multi-step skincare regime down to the bare necessities and while these products can vary, I’ve always come back to these essential items to one of my all-time favourite brands: Lush.

Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub

If a dreamy island holiday was bottled up into a beauty product, this blue-and-beige swirled scrub made with sea salt, limes steeped in vodka and avocado butter would be it. True to its name, it has the aquamarine colour of Caribbean waters, the salty, zesty scent of an ocean breeze and feels like sand scooped from the ocean floor. All you need is one handful to buff, soften and hydrate your skin. It does have a very gritty texture, so if you have sensitive skin, I wouldn’t recommend using it on your face. If you have dry skin, I wouldn’t use it more than once or twice a week because it does contain alcohol, which is fab for cleansing the skin but can be drying if used frequently.

R180 for 120g or R295 for 250g

Bunny Moon Jelly Face Mask

This face mask is unlike anything I’ve ever tried before. Packed with honey, rose oil, chamomile and marigold, its initial texture is the same as Lush Shower Jellies. (Yes, it jiggles in the tub too!) Straight from the tub, it has a strong vanilla and honey scent, but after pinching off a piece and spreading it onto your face, the rose and chamomile will come out. The jelly almost melts onto the pads of your fingers, making it easy to work a paste and apply. The best part is that only need to leave it on for five to 10 minutes for calm, clear, super-soft skin. It can be a little difficult to remove though, so I’d suggest washing it off with a warm, damp washcloth.

Cup O’ Coffee Face and Body Mask

Are you a sucker for the strong, stimulating type? Then this coffee-filled mask is just the thing to kickstart your day. Ground coffee beans scrub away dirt and dry skin, while roasted cocoa extract, vetivert and coriander oil give your skin an extra boost and create a rich, intoxicating aroma of freshly brewed coffee. You can apply it with a brush, but I find that applying it with your fingers works better because it’s pretty thick. Leave it on as a mask and then massage as soft or hard as you like when removing, or just use it as a face scrub in the shower. Whichever way you choose to use it, it’s guaranteed that your skin will be left feeling soft, clean and wonderfully fragrant.

R165 for 150g or R270 for 325g

Honey Lip Scrub

We all know a smile has the power to steal a heart … so it’s our duty to take care of our lips. Where do I even begin when it comes to anything honey flavoured? This ingredient is renowned for its antiseptic qualities and is combined with sweet wild orange oil in this lip scrub, which is incidentally also well-known for its antiseptic properties. Both these substances arenot only oh-so-delicious, but also suitable for the delicate skin on your lips. Apply a generous amount with a clean finger to gently exfoliate your lips, leaving them feeling softer, plumper and more hydrated. Top tip: Follow up with Lush Honey Trap Lip Balm to err on the side of caution.
