A Painted House by John Grisham

This stunning coming of age story is set on a cotton farm in rural Arkansas in 1952 and follows the life of a young boy called Luke as he interprets the adult goings on around him. This one of Grisham’s only novels that isn’t a legal thriller and it’s amazing! The descriptive writing, fascinating story line and complex characters make this an unforgettable read.

House Rules by Jodi Picoult

Jodi Picoult has so many fantastic novels, but House Rules is hands down one of our favourites. The story centres around Jacob, a teenager with Aspergers syndrome who is accused of murder. Although, the premise may sound a little scary this read is actually super uplifting and offers an in-depth look at how people with Aspergers live as well as shows how strong a mother’s love can be.

The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling

The Casual Vacancy definitely doesn’t fall short of expectation, although it’s nothing like at all like Harry Potter. The plot follows the lives of various characters, including an overweight teenager and an middle-aged mum, meaning there’s a character that just about everyone can relate to. It’s an easy read that is guaranteed to bring you many hours of joy.
