Well, Hello Joburgers, let’s be honest – there is nothing wrong with a good bar or club jol on occasion – so we put together our top list of places to cut a rug, or just have a jolly good time with friends!
1 Fox – The Sheds – Ferreria’s Town
1 Fox Precinct was part of one of the first mining camps that sprung up at the time of the discovery of gold in the 1880s. The area became the centre of the administration, maintenance and storage of trams and buses during the rapid growth of Johannesburg’s transport sector in the first half of the 20th century. Today, this precinct has been transformed into a dynamic cultural hub and houses a number of businesses: Good Luck Bar & Restaurant, Fox Junction Event Venue, Mad Giant Craft Brewery and the Food Market Shed.

Billy the Bum’s – Fourways
We won’t lie, this place has a bit of a reputation – but the parties are always epic. A bit of a younger crowd, but always great music and a great vibe. During the day they serve food out on the deck, and at night the youth of Fourways crowd in to jive, wiggle, drink and generally get up to no good fun 😉
Worth a visit if you enjoy a great party!

Babylon Bar – Illovo
One of Joburg’s most premium gay bars, Babylon Bar is always a blast. Music is rocking, the bartenders are great to look at, and they welcome all that are gay-friendly, 18 years and older. Cuddle up in a booth, or set the dance floor on fire, or even take a shot off the chest of a topless waiter – whatever tickles your fancy, this is the place to be!
Drinks are reasonably priced, and they often offer entertainment from strip shows to singers and much more – always a good night out.

Kitchener’s Bar – Braamfontein
Local pub by day and where the party’s at by night, Kitchener’s kinda pride themselves on having the most progressive and varied music with the best DJ’s in the country and often from oversea’s – as well as supposedly also sporting one of the best soundsystems in South Africa (doef doef) 😉
The vibe is relaxed and real, and this place is literally a Jozi institution… you won’t find a better night out.
Cover charge ranges from R20-R60 depending on who’s performing, and with international guests on the bill it can go up to R80-R150. Age restrictions can apply

The Steamworks – Fourways
If the decor doesn’t blow you away, then I don’t know what will. This funky pub becomes a “club” later in the evening, and the unique look and feel of steampunk-style furniture, brass cogs and clocks, superb gastropub food and a wide selection of craft beers.
“We have 10 local craft and imported beers on tap, your usual favourite bottled beers and a range of carefully selected imported beers of the unusual kind, perfectly paired with The Steamworks’ English gastropub, dynamic cuisine” they boast on their website. Worth a visit for a drink or dinner.
