Dining Out, Our Top 5

Our top 5 OTT desserts in Jozi

Aug 31, 2018, Author: Candice May

Hello Joburgers, if there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that Joburg doesn’t leave much to be desired when it comes to desserts. This is the place that invented the #FreakShake, after all! From super-stuffed ice-cream sandwiches to the well-loved flaky doughnut known as the cronut, these are the Jozi desserts worth gaining a few kilos for.

The ‘Oreo Monster’ ice cream sandwich at Crumbs & Cream

There are loads of indulgent ice creams and cookies to choose from at Crumbs & Cream, but our favourite combo has got to be the Oreo Monster – think double choc-chip cookies squashing a filling of Oreo Monster ice cream, spread with dulche de leche and topped with vanilla fudge. Yes, please!

The ‘Candy Carnival’ dessert shake at Craft

The #FreakShakes at Craft are nothing short of next level! If you have a sweet tooth, order the Instagram-worthy Candy Carnival – layered with creamy ice cream, strawberry and bubble gum candy, love hearts, sherbet, candy floss, popping candy and pink caramel, all crammed into a decadent creamy shake.

The ‘Bubble Waffle’ at Ciao – The Little Eatery

Bubbles waffles, made in a special honeycomb mould, are a popular treat in Hong Kong – and one of our favourite desserts in Jozi! At Ciao – The Little Eatery, the bubble waffles come out with crispy edges and soft, chewy ‘bubbles’, and are then topped with innovated flavoured ice creams like cream soda and black cheesecake. Now that’s a real treat!

The ‘Salted Caramel & Passion Fruit XO Cronut’ at XO Patisserie

The classic chocolate and hazelnut maybe the most popular choice of cronut at this Melville patisserie, but the salted caramel and passion fruit is a much more electic (and, in our opinion, delicious) option. Their flaky, freshly baked doughnuts are filled with smooth salted caramel and just the right amount of tangy passion fruit – mmm, mmm!

The ‘Decadent’ Waffle at Rather Tart

When we’re in the mood for a warm, fluffy waffle topped with all the toppings, we opt for the Decadent waffle at Rather Tart – a traditional waffle generously loaded with mixed roasts nuts, banana, cream or ice cream and caramel. It might sound simple, but we promise it’s one of the most over-the-top waffles in town!
