Poison of the Month – Castle Milk Stout Chocolate

You read that right… Chocolate beer. We’re not complaining! We have quite the sweet tooth, and we love to knock back a nice cold one every now and again.

Launch date: 2015

How it’s made: Milk Stout is brewed with water, yeast and hops – but it’s the dark roasted malt which gives this beer its unique colour and flavour. It also has lactose sugar for body and residual sweetness. Made with real cocoa, Castle Milk Stout Chocolate is brewed with speciality malts to create its malty chocolate character. This richness is complemented by the creamy smooth taste of Castle Milk Stout. With an alcohol content of 4.5%, it’s designed to be sipped and enjoyed for an easy drinking experience.

Flavours: Slightly sweet, but it has bittersweet hints around the edges. And of course it has the same full-bodied, smooth and creamy mouthfeel for which the brand is known!

Cool fact: Castle Milk Stout Chocolate was initially launched as a limited edition in 2014, but was reintroduced due to popular demand a year later.

Best cocktail: Chocolate Malt Julep

Mix it up with a Castle Milk Stout Chocolate Malt Julep

Using a V shaped pint glass, mix together 25ml of vanilla syrup, 1 orange wedge and 8 to 10 mint leaves. Add crushed ice and top up with chilled Castle Milk Stout Chocolate. Churn lightly and cap with more crushed ice. Then garnish with a large mint sprig and an orange twist, and serve!
