We can’t imagine how this gem managed to stay hidden for so long. To truly…
As you know we love mini breaks and are beyond delighted with our latest discovery – an absolute gem in Glenferness, called Aloe Lane Guest Lodge. This beautifully decorated boutique guest lodge is intimate, welcoming, restful and a mere 20-minute drive from Sandton.
Glenferness borders on to the beautiful suburbs of Lonehill and Kyalami, in fact the stunning infinity pool looks out over Lonehill itself. Let us just take a minute to describe this view, if we can.
The beautiful trees surrounding the property create the illusion of being on a game farm, hundreds of kilometers outside of Johannesburg but really only 30 minutes from OR Tambo and Lanseria airports – and the silence is beyond peaceful, punctuated only by the calls of birds and the very distant hum of traffic.
As night falls, the lights in the distance create an illusion of stars, and dinner is served on the pool deck, surrounded by flickering candles and a bottle of champagne, and slowly the cares and worries of the week slowly slip away.
Operating since 2013, the Lodge offers seven large, beautifully decorated bedrooms, high speed wi-fi and the feeling of a home away from home.
The rest areas and bedrooms are beautifully decorated, shades of blue and green pull through with dashes of sparkles, and local artefacts that create interesting conversations – the two high backed purple throne chairs lend themselves perfectly to photos, and the chess board sporting local political leaders had us intrigued.
Aloe Lane also offers conferencing facilities for up to 20 delegates and is perfectly laid out to create intimacy for brain storming, as well as many well-appointed areas for breakaways and tea breaks.
Stretch your legs around the property and admire the abundant bird life, or keep an eye out for Napoleon, the resident tortoise who thinks he is a dog and runs around the property. We kept an eye out for him during our stay – but sadly did not manage to catch a glimpse of him. Well, that’s just an excuse to visit them again, which we have no problem with at all.
Aloe Lane also offers the most unique and creative experiences, from an exclusive dinner in their wine cellar, to unwinding with a beer next to the fire in the private boma. Why not bring your other half along for a super romantic dining experience with personalised service, or book to join in one of their wine and chocolate pairing evenings – or even a nougat and rum tasting experience!
Nothing is too much effort for the team at Aloe Lane, and our return visit is already booked to once again unwind in this little slice of heaven.
