Social Kitchen and Bar menu is made for sharing

The festive season is certainly the time for sharing – not only time spent with family and friends but also sharing gifts, stories and food.

Social Kitchen and Bar’s Chef Russell Armstrong has put together a delicious festive-season inspired sharing menu for this December.

The Chef’s Selection, priced at R480 for two people, serves up seven share-worthy plates. Fresh, simple dishes bursting with vibrant colour, texture and palate-pleasing flavours.


“I believe that when beautiful flavours are combined with perfect technique, they deliver the best meals,” says Armstrong. “My inspiration for the festive season’s Chef’s Selection comes from my favourite mealtime-memories – sharing plates and sharing stories across the table with my family back in Australia.”

The set-menu starts with nibbles of salty chorizo, garlic sausage and warm, crispy potatoes; before you move onto to fresh caprese salad with authentic buffalo mozzarella and fresh tomatoes, and a quinoa salad with roasted walnuts, cauliflower and chilli. Dishes three and four are a pithivier of wood mushrooms, fino sherry and truffle cream; and a slow-roasted beef fillet from the josper. Dessert (although always difficult to share) is a gorgonzola and truffle panna cotta with pear gel and then something sweet… either mini pavlova or lemon curd tart with fresh berries.


“The menu really has something for everyone, and it takes you back to happy days of tables laden with plates and reaching across the spread to get that last roast potato,” says Armstrong.

Social Kitchen & Bar is Johannesburg’s best restaurant to share conversations and hand-crafted food. It completes the epicurean adventure with simple food, inspired cocktails and a breath-taking view.
