As many of us become more conscious of what we’re putting in our bodies, from green juice to gluten-free alternatives, and what we’re putting our bodies through – think Switch Playground and Hotpod Yoga – we’re also becoming more aware of what we’re putting on our body. We’ve rounded up our favourite beauty brands that have all the ingredients you want – and none of the ones you don’t.

1. African Extracts 

The brand: African Extracts is inspired by South Africa’s natural beauty and the unique skincare benefits of indigenous rooibos, which grows naturally only in one place on earth – the rugged Cederberg mountains. The fresh-cut green plant is steam-extracted at the source to capture and preserve the highest levels of antioxidants.

2. Beaucience 

The brand: Prounounced ‘bo-si-ance’, Beaucience uses the combination of the unique peptide ingredients Proteasyl PW derived from the pea plant and essential oils for a kind yet direct approach to ageing men and women. Plus, South African ingredients are used where possible, the packaging is environmentally friendly, the glass is recyclable and the plastic is biodegradable.

3. Skin Oil from Africa 

The brand: Skin Oil from Africa’s range of skin oil and body creams crafted in Africa are formulated with care, featuring a natural composition of key African extracts: Bio-Pharm oil, hempseed oil, rosehip oil and coconut oil. The products also contain antioxidant-rich vitamin E for youthful skin and sweet almond oil for hydration, repair, healing and anti-inflammatory properties.

4. SOiL 

The brand: SOiL’s essential oils and carrier oils are made from precious botanical ingredients grown and harvested on their own organic farm, which overlooks Zululand’s majestic eMakhosini Valley. This was the first South African company to sell a complete range of 100% certified organic essential oils. The products are packaged in recyclable biodegradable glass

5. Earthsap 

The brand: Earthsap’s earth-friendly toiletries and cleaning products are made using pure plant oils and other natural ingredients. You’ll find no fragrances, irritants or allergens in the body care products – they’re completely chemical-free and gentle. The products are also ethically produced and not tested on animals.
