The geeks have descended on Joburg and the next few weeks are a celebration of all thing’s geek and gaming in our city. So why not get in on the action? The inaugural Comic Con Africa took place a few weeks ago at the Kyalami Race Track and caused a stir. However, the fun doesn’t end there. Here are a host of games and spots on the internet you can visit to find out more about a culture taking over the world:
Make sure you visit: rAge expo 2018

Geeks to watch: Vamers
Hans Haupt is often mistaken for Thor with his tall frame, long blonde hair and smiling personality. While not Thor, he does head up Vamers (vamers.co.za) a funky geek portal that is a great place for all things gaming and geek. Vamers has a new but interesting YouTube channel filled with unboxings and gameplay that will make you laugh while also offering up a small online boutique with geek inspired merchandise. Think Harry Potter wand makeup brushes and Iron Man cufflinks. This Joburg based team will feed every nerd need you might have.
Games to play: LOTS
This time of the year is gamer Christmas. There are a host of new titles on offer and these are the three you need to make sure you order this month.
First up is FIFA 19. Everyone’s favourite football simulator releases 28 September 2018 on XBox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. FIFA 19 throws in something new this time by incorporating the UEFA Champion’s League – allowing you to field some of your favourite real-life teams and players in a virtual battle to lift the trophy.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 drops globally on 12 October for Xbox, PlayStation and PC. The revamp of the classic first-person shooter franchise sees you battle it out against friends in a multiplayer environment, hunt down zombies and even try your hand at battle royale style play in a new addition called Blackout. Basically, this one is Fortnite for the big boys!
The final game to grab this month is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey which is set during the Peloponnesian War. You play as either Athens or Sparta in this action role-playing game which allows you to discover and explore Ancient Greece. While the gameplay is fun you’ll want to get your hands-on Odyssey for the incredible re-creations of ancient relics, iconic buildings and Greek landmarks. It is a feast for your eyes and history buffs will thoroughly enjoy this one.
