U by Uniworld – first-ever river cruise brand for millennials

Calling all you millennials – if you are all about fun and adventure, then you may be excited to learn about U by Uniworld, the new exciting river cruise brand offering travel for 21-45-year-olds.

It’s inaugural event took place along the Seine river in October, with a host of social media influencers on board, and was quite something to behold. The ship was previously known as The Baroness and has been completely transformed in to what is now known as “The B.”

“We’re thrilled to make history with the launch of U by Uniworld and introduce a whole new generation to river cruising,” said Ellen Bettridge, President & CEO of Uniworld. “It’s very exciting to see this vision come to life.”

The inaugural event included a drum circle creating a spiritual energy on board, a renaming ceremony and loads more, as well as allowing guests the opportunity to experience all that U has to offer on board – and we mean everything from yoga and camping on the top deck, a silent disco party, mixology plus impressionist paint and wine classes.

Offshore, guests experienced some of U’sunique, immersive excursions such as a panoramic breakfast on the Gastronome bus, a treasure hunt at the Louvre, a secret tour of Versailles, a Paris City Roofs tour and more.

Hot on the heels of the inaugural sailing of The B, the new river cruise brand also announced some more expansion plans. The brand has set its sights on the Mekong River in Asia for a third ship, with plans for a fourth ship to be announced in the future. According to CEO Ellen Bettridge “There has been such tremendous interest for The B and The A and we’re excited to bring this innovative concept to more destinations.” No launch dates have been set at this time.

The B ship can accommodate 120 fun-loving travellers per voyage, spread across its four Suites, 26 Balcony Bedrooms, 29 Studio Bedrooms and two Studio Bedrooms with triple occupancy – all with waterfront views and equipped with built-in Bluetooth speakers.

The B is the only ship on the river to reveal a unique all-matte black exterior. The ship boasts two rooftop venues, a spa, mixologists, international DJ’s, communal tables for dining, and farm-to-table cuisine with dishes ranging from Bea Tollman’s Spaghetti Pomodoro, U by Quinoa Burgers, Miso Marinated Wild Salmon to Peanut Butter Bacon Chocolate Bars.

A pioneer in sustainable tourism, U offers organic BeeKind amenities in all rooms, uses WhatsApp and email for internal communication with guests doing away with the traditional paper daily itineraries on cruise ships, displays menus on screens in the bar and restaurant, has a Press Reader app for guests to receive news onboard and is creating an app, which will connect travellers before, during and after their trips together and debut in March 2018 ahead of the first bookable sailings.

Sailings on The B and U’s second ship, The A, begin in April 2018 with prices starting at R27 600 per person sharing.

Four eight-day itineraries – The Seine Experience, Rolling on the Rhine, Germany’s Finest and The Danube Flow – will sail along the Rhine, Main, Danube and Seine Rivers, with overnight stops and longer stays available in major cities including Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam and Budapest.
